Sponsorship/Donations/Grants

SAILS is a not for profit DGR registered “public benevolent fund charity” and relies on sponsorship, donations and grants to continue it’s work with at risk young people and the community. All donations of $2-00 or more are tax deductible.

SAILS positive outcomes with at risk youth have been recognized by the community with these recently won awards:

Australia Day 2006 Gold Coast Citizen of the Year Russell McClue
Community Safety 2005 Best Program Award
State Government 2006 Queensland Day Award

More important than the awards is the knowledge that through the work of the SAILS ministry young lives, which were once devoid of hope, are now on a path to wholeness.  It is a sad fact that, each day, hundreds of children on the Gold Coast are confronted by life challenges that many of us think can only happen in the movies.  Each month up to 300 young people are participating in the SAILS activities which include the large sailing vessel,  ‘Matt C’,  Hobie Cats, kayaks and beach activities.  SAILS also has houses offering residential care for young people with complex needs, a mechanics training course and an RTO registered college for teaching cerificated qualifications.

Sailing, beach activities and the other SAILS programs are an amazingly effective way of engaging with young people particularly those who may not have been receptive to traditional teaching.

Young people are engaged in non-threatening experiential learning experiences, assisting them to gain insight to some of their strengths, talents, knowledge and/or skills. This is a tremendous boost to their confidence and self esteem.  The changes in attitude and expectation this brings about motivates them to take positive decisions that will improve their prospects of making an effective transition to adult life.

We could not do this without our leader with the vision, Russell McClue, our team of dedicated volunteers, our amazing generous founding sponsors and our amazing generous donors.

A unique activity like SAILS needs continuing funds to help keep it afloat!  We have ongoing costs including insurance, maintenance, new equipment, fuel and crew operational expenses to meet in order to be able to help our troubled teenagers.

We’re achieving results – and you can help us do more!

A unique activity like SAILS needs continuing funds to help keep it afloat. While we receive great support from volunteer leaders and the generosity of our founding sponsors, ongoing  costs must be met before we can help our troubled teenagers.
